World renowned choral conductor and educator, Dr. Pearl Shangkuan, has accepted the position of Editor for the storied choral publisher, Hinshaw Music.  Her appointment to the role became effective on May 15, 2022.  “I am thrilled to joining the Hinshaw Music and Fred Bock Publishing Group as the new Editor for Hinshaw,” said Dr. Shangkuan upon her accepting the role.  “As a conductor, I’ve used Hinshaw music for my own choirs through the years and for all levels and occasions.  Now I get to be directly involved in the creation of new music, which is a very exciting challenge for me.  I can’t wait to get started!”

“From my standpoint, the only way to be the best is to hire the best,” said Stephen Bock, President of the Fred Bock Publishing Group.  “Dr. Shangkuan is one of the true leaders in the choral music genre.  I am confident that the excellence that she has brought to her classroom and her choral ensembles will permeate every part of Hinshaw Music.  Hands down, Pearl is the best person we could have hired for this job.”

Dr. William Carroll, who has been the Editor for the Hinshaw Music catalog for over 25 years and had recently retired from the position, has been named Editor Emeritus and will serve as a consultant to Dr. Shangkuan and other Fred Bock Publishing Group personnel.  “Working with all of the Hinshaw writers has been a joy in my life.  I know the catalog will be in excellent hands with Pearl Shangkuan,” said Dr. Carroll.   “She is a champion of excellence, and I’m proud to hand her the baton!”
